Ranch Truck Cap Locks & Security Hardware
Our lock assembly is the same factory-grade hardware installed on every new Ranch cap. Each unit includes a keyed cylinder, housing, and strike plate designed to withstand job-site conditions — dust, mud, and temperature swings from -20°F to 120°F.
We build these locks with marine-grade stainless steel internals and a powder-coated zinc housing. The dual-action tumbler mechanism resists picking and corrosion, and every assembly ships with two laser-cut keys. Whether you’re replacing a worn lock or upgrading an older cap, this hardware delivers the same secure fit and smooth operation you expect from Ranch.

Keyed-alike option for multi-cap fleets
If you run multiple trucks with Ranch caps, our keyed-alike service matches every lock to a single master key. You send us your existing key code when you order, and we cut each new lock cylinder to that profile.
This option is popular with construction crews, utility fleets, and ranch operations where drivers share vehicles. One key opens every cap, toolbox, and fuel door across your entire fleet. There’s no delay — keyed-alike locks ship within two business days of your order, and we keep your key code on file for future replacements.

Installation & mounting
Each lock assembly drops into the factory drilled hole on your cap’s rear door or side window frame. You’ll find a threaded collar on the back of the cylinder — hand-tighten it until snug, then give it a quarter turn with pliers.
The strike plate mounts to the cap frame with two stainless screws (included). Align the plate so the latch engages smoothly when the door closes, then tighten the screws in an X pattern. Total install time is about eight minutes per lock. We include a full-color instruction card with torque specs and alignment tips, and our parts library has exploded diagrams for every cap model if you need a visual reference.
Cylinder replacement without drilling
Lost key scenarios
If you’ve lost both keys, you don’t need to drill out the lock. Our cylinder extraction tool (sold separately or free with any lock purchase) threads into the face of the tumbler and pulls the core straight out. Slide the new keyed cylinder into the housing, snap the retaining ring, and you’re back in operation.
This method preserves the housing and strike plate, so you’re only replacing the $18 cylinder instead of the full $34.99 assembly. We keep every key code in our system for seven years — if you ordered your cap after 2018, we can cut a replacement cylinder to your original code and ship it same-day.

Lock & hardware questions
We can’t match vehicle ignition keys directly, but we can key-match multiple Ranch cap locks to a single master key code. If you want one key for your cap, toolbox, and fuel door, your best option is to have a locksmith cut a new ignition key to match our lock code — most locksmiths can do this in about 15 minutes.
Every lock assembly includes the keyed cylinder, housing, strike plate, two laser-cut keys, mounting collar, two stainless screws, and a rubber washer. You don’t need to buy any additional hardware unless you’re installing the lock in a custom-drilled location.
Check the data plate inside your cap’s rear door. If the serial number starts with “10” or higher (indicating model year 2010 or later), you need the current lock kit (RTC-LOCK-01). Serial numbers starting with “09” or earlier require the legacy kit (RTC-LOCK-LG). If you can’t find the plate, measure the existing lock hole — current locks fit a 1-inch diameter hole, legacy locks fit a 15/16-inch hole.
This lock is designed specifically for Ranch caps and uses our proprietary mounting footprint. It may fit some aftermarket caps with a 1-inch lock hole, but we can’t guarantee alignment of the strike plate or tumbler clearance. For non-Ranch caps, we recommend checking with the cap manufacturer for their replacement lock part number.
Spray a light coating of dry Teflon lubricant into the keyway every three months if you operate in dust, sand, or road salt. Avoid oil-based lubricants — they attract grit and gum up the tumblers. Wipe down the housing with a damp cloth after off-road trips to prevent caked mud from hardening around the cylinder.
Yes — our caps have pre-drilled lock holes on both the rear door and side sliding windows. The same lock assembly fits either location. You’ll just need to position the strike plate on the window frame instead of the door jamb. All alignment and torque specs remain the same.
The high-security lock (RTC-LOCK-HS) uses a seven-pin tumbler instead of the standard five-pin design, and the key has a sidebar groove that makes it nearly impossible to pick or bump. It’s popular with contractors carrying expensive tools. Installation is identical, and both locks carry the same five-year warranty.
